And the mission is NOT to make as much money as possible....it is to change student outcomes. That’s pretty cool, and it requires a special kind of person to work here. It requires passion and caring for more than just what the profit was last quarter

APAX is so dedicated to the mission of Cengage that they forced the company to borrow money to pay themselves dividends after the company posted a net loss. Mission based company is the only way these people can justify paying you peanuts and no bonuses in years. I don’t know how private equity people sleep at night.
The OP is almost certainly trolling (not even a half-bright sales employee would honestly hold this observation, sales people are not built that way). Nevertheless, I will offer in response: if profitable growth were not the goal - as it is in every for-profit business - there would be no layoffs. No downsizings. APAX is about as far from being a non-profit as one can be, of course, so Hanson is tasked with delivering positive results in one of two ways: through natural, sales-based revenue growths or via downsizing. Remember, to truly "change the way the world learns" people have to actually be using your product, lol.
It’s called living within your means. We drive used cars and don’t take extravagant vacations. It’s worth it when your job makes a difference for others.
Good grief can you pay your bills on changing the outcomes for students? You don’t care what the profit was last quarter? You still live at home with mom and dad obviously.
I swear this company is the Island of Misfit toys.
What’s most important is “free”.
These people are liberal progressive cultural Marxist filth... Don't trust them with your spare change.
I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine
