Most states consider your severance package to be a gift & not wages so yes, file immediately. If u go on vacation & cannot file for a specific week then don't start up again until you are home. You have 52 weeks to collect 26 weeks of unemployment, take as many vacations as u like.

Every state can be different?
Signing the "release" I believe constitutes compensation not "working" income.
Therefore U can "collect" while its paid out.
