One more thing, the moment you are let go, apply for Illinois Unemployment benefits. Illinois has a 'waiting week' so it will take several weeks to get paid from there. Also make sure you keep all papers given to you by HR, the state of Illinois might ask you to mail or fax those over (they did ask for my papers). Keep your interview log up to date as they do random checks to make sure you are interviewing, etc. I also found that Indeed or Dice are helpful, post a resume out there ASAP. If you have a 401k see your banker and roll that over ASAP to an IRA. Your could keep it there but since the company is on thin ice, it's best to move that now to avoid any red tape in the event of a chapter 7.
When you are laid off, you can keep your insurance thru COBRA for up to a year. It does take time to sign up for healthcare.gov, so I would probably sign up for COBRA for a month or two during transition then you can always cancel the COBRA. Prepare for sticker shock on the COBRA, it's very expensive especially for family coverage. I look at it like a spare tire you use on your car, it's not meant to be long term. I used it after my lay off until I was able to get less expensive coverage. Getting medical coverage turned out to not be a big deal, but you'll also lose dental coverage (if you had it with Sears) and the non-corporate dental plans are not as good as the corporate backed plans.
If you are laid off your insurance will end within 14 days. So I wouldn’t go to the dr after you leave because the will cancel the insurance anytime after you leave up to two weeks after.
Does anyone know if you are laid off does insurance end that day?

This comes as no surprise. I wish no one any ill will However, the handwriting was written on the wall years ago. Get out, and get out now. Eddie does not care one hoot about saving or even transforming Sears. If he did he would have done so long ago.
Will happen Wednesday. Greater than 50% cut.
