Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

This will not be pretty

I just went through the Xerox page on this forum and now I'm regretting that big time. If we thought things are bad here, there they seem to be at least two times worse.

Now I'm left praying that this whole acquisition doesn't go through. Who thought there was a place that beat us in how bad employees had it...

It appears the executives at Xerox believe they can make ADDITIONAL cuts beyond the planned 9000 job cuts in HP. Talk about trying to squeeze blood from a rock after smashing it with a sledgehammer.

Hi, I currently work for Xerox. Thought I would come over here to scope out HP's page on this site. I'm in software engineering. I've seen a lot and been around in Xerox.

I used to call on Xerox in Rochester NY. The campus was depressing. My guess is that the two companies merge and then they pull an additional 10,000 to 20,000 employees out

It’s no better at Ricoh- they have closed many of our local offices, minuscule merit increases, trying to push experienced older employees out, etc, etc. Morale is a thing of the past, like our pensions.

They could agree on a merger and keep both the Xerox and HP "brands" alive as they did with the Compaq brand (for a while.) Lots of options. But I would expect a PC sell-off to happen if these companies join regardless of which name is chosen.

For HP it's a big step back to dieing businesses. But has board lots its appetite for investment in growth area like 3D, Indigo, industrial printing? They would be big assets for X. Restructure expensive west coasts sites like San Diego and consolidate in unused Xerox facilities. With xerox withdrawing from FX and the stress this will put on HP - Canon relations they must be betting that Xerox aftermarket toner production and Samsung assets can eek out installed base while new businesses grow. My 2c. It would seem more sensible Hp buy Xerox for their channel.

I can understand why Xerox wants HP, but the deal for HP would be like taking steps backward into more unneeded consumer printing. HP has a lot of new products in the works that is using their jet printer heads but not for ink, maybe Xerox is after those things?
