Somewhere I guarantee there's a metric that's driving this behavior.
Ha, ha. We had the same thing when our store closed this year. We spent a weeks going through the whole store and getting every item that hadn't sold in the last six months, along with overstock and just plain junk ready to send to another store. We packed it in boxes, inventoried every item, put them on pallets (27 pallets) and shipped them to three different stores. Three weeks later we were told we were a closing store. A month after the closing announcement we get 22 of the pallets back. Some of the pallets were still just as we shipped them. Others had obviously been unpacked and stocked and then repacked and sent back to us. What a waste of time and money.
We are a closing store and would get a huge truckload from a.store, work like a maniac to get it out only to find out you are sending as much out to another store 5 days later. Ping pong is right.
They will probably demand money upfront due to Eddie's nasty habit of nonpayments.
Has anyone else's store been playing ping pong with the inter-store transfers? I hear that a lot of the closing stores that got inundated with transfers from supposedly go forward stores ended up just packing everything they received right back up and sending it to some other poor store. Now that another several dozen stores are closing, they'll be the lucky ones getting dozens of pallets of junk at a time, assuming the trucks start moving again.
It's not a good sign when the checks to the truck delivery guys are bouncing.

There has been a $250 million cash infusion, which I assume means that shipments to remaining stores will resume shortly.
