Thread regarding Fry's Electronics layoffs

Two white/unlabeled semi trucks came to Fry's Austin

Two 40' white/unlabeled semi trucks pulled into the Austin Fry's late Wednesday afternoon. I thought they were going to load new inventory into the store.

They were empty trucks loading OUT the store after normal business hours. They spent a long time there and it seemed that they left full. That's a lot of inventory moving away from Austin. The container side of the trucks were plain white with the required DOT numbers on them.. the cabs were driven by a southern California logistics company.

This close to Black Friday, you'd think there would be a parade of trucks loading UP the store, not loading out.

@11UcLohr-2pph, maybe they're opening Fry's Seen On TV stores.

i may stop by the one here in Austin for one last, sad look around before I never bother going back again. I used to shop there a lot, from the day it opened here close to 20 years ago. Then this last summer, the stuff I would routinely buy there (SSD's, SD cards, batteries and electronics chemicals) stopped being restocked. Sales quickly emptied the shelves of practically everything I needed to buy. Once the place had gotten noticeably empty, I made the mistake of starting to ask one of the employees in the computer component department what was going on. He just about snapped my head off in mid-sentence,"before you ask me if we're going out of business, NO! WE ARE NOT!". It was pretty obvious that he'd answered that same question probably dozens of time that day and was getting tired of doing so. I went back a few weeks after that and the place was a ghost town. I haven't been back in a couple of months now. That last time, I watched one guy heading into the store being told by a couple of others heading out not to bother...it was likely whatever he was looking for wasn't there. He just threw up his hands, turned around and headed back to his car.

What could they have possibly loaded up besides perfume and infomercial junk? It’s all that’s left.

Have to go and look and see. Maybe they were taking away empty shelves and fixtures.

True

Running out of adjectives to describe increasingly empty shelves... :)

Maybe getting ready to move all remaining inventory to one store for final Black Friday while the rest close?

I'll have to check my local store to see if it's gone from barren to desolate. Running out of adjectives to describe increasingly empty shelves... :)
