Thread regarding Fry's Electronics layoffs

Sunnyvale Desert

Went into Fry's Sunnyvale store today. Hardly any stock on the shelves.

No sales staff. Its such a shame because I used to shop there all the time and there was a cute girl who worked there I used to see every time I went there.

This is a symptom of the polarization of wealth in the US because as Bezos gets richer, all the entry level workers at Fry's lose their jobs.

Best Buy is doing okay in spite of Amazon and probably Newegg and even ebay, so I wouldn't place all blame on them. Rather it's more likely that the demise of Fry's Electronics is due to poor management that didn't appropriately adjust to online competition. I'm sure Costco, Target, and Walmart are even doing okay sales-wise in their electronics departments but they have a large footprint in comparison to Fry's. But all have decent online sales mechanics from the consumer perspective including a decent enough app and website experience.

(Not that I'm disagreeing that Amazon and other "big tech" companies behave in a monopolistic manner and should face more governmental scrutiny.)

But I wonder how smaller players competing in the electronics retail sector are fairing like Beach Camera, B&H, Adorama, Microcenter, etc.
