The DieHard thing with YAT has gone nowhere fast. So far, Sears doesn't appear to even have a plan for lawn and garden moving forward. If they do, they are saying nothing to anyone about it. Meanwhile, Lowe's is selling the Craftsman brand and leaving them high and dry to have them repaired.
Speaking of that, another in this thread mentioned that Craftsman stopped supplying Sears with lawnmowers and that's not what happened at all. Sears sold the Craftsman name. The manufacturer is MTD and they have nothing to do with the name on the machine. The Craftsman name now belongs to Stanley-Black and Decker.
MTD appears to have cut all ties with Sears, but it has nothing to do with the Craftsman name. Yet. Stanley buying out MTD will be the next big merger to come along with lawn mowers.
Funny that his 2nd tier and down executives mock his decisions as shear boobery and then pretend to be behind the initiatives. What has changed in 3 years other that the date? Eddies life story about his legacy of closing down 2 of the worlds largest retailers at the same time will make an interesting read..
The feds should really launch a probe of Fast Eddie's businesses. Something is very wrong with this scenario.
Diehard batteries aren’t just similar to Autozone, they are the same. Both manufacturered by Johnson Controls at last check and JC doesn’t even decide who’s stickers to apply until shipping. You are literally paying more for nothing.
Exploring? This whole sham has been an asset sale for ever 10 years. Real estate. Brands, souls...
the sad part is the board did nothing and corporate “leadership” did less. When vp’s sit and make fun of Eddie before the camera comes on, but praises him when he joins, they are part of the problem and they still do it.
@ACM: Man, that's sad. I remember when I worked at Sears in the 80s that if it got cold we'd have EVERYONE installing batteries–including me, and I worked in the stockroom–and still have a 3-4 hour wait. Prices were very competitive at that time and the DieHard name was associated with quality.
Last time we bought a car battery it was from O'Reilly, Time before that, Costco. Sears wasn't even in the ballpark price-wise
I thought the future of the whole auto business was based on a rebranding to the Diehard name? Oh...
DieHard Announces A Lawn and Garden Tool Line
DieHard Enters Into Agreement in Principle with YAT Electric Appliance Co.
We always like to announce mergers when we get the chance, and it looks like we’re getting that chance again. At the recent National Hardware Show in Las Vegas, DieHard announced an agreement in principle with YAT to manufacture a line of lawn and garden tools under the DieHard license. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, prototypes and renderings of the some of the DieHard lineup were unveiled.
I work in an auto center and I can tell you that die hard is pretty much worthless. A few years ago I use to have a lot of people who would only buy diehard batteries. But then sears got the great idea to jack up the prices. We were about double the price for a similar battery you could buy at auto zone. That turned off a lot of people. Recently we dropped the prices but it’s a little too late. It is rare that people even call for battery prices anymore. Not to mention diehard has the shortest warranty out there. Why would someone pay $125 for a battery with a 2 year warranty when they can go to Walmart and get one for $75 with a 5 year warranty.
Watch the next will be Kenmore. Then Greedy Eddie will say, "We might have to sell the stores to stay afloat."
so much for preserving the company. So El is the kind that lowballs stuff at a yard sale so he can take it and sell it for more at the swap meet.
have to come him credit though he is a master con artist. He got a federal judge to believe him, takes some balls to lie under oath.
Just another once storied brand completely destroyed by Eddie
And here we go again...
Sell it all.. I am more likely to purchase a diehard battery at a Firestone or Goodyear auto center than Sears, because I know both FS and Goodyear will be around next year.
Wasn't diehard a big part of the "go forward" pitch I heard last spring they were suppose to be coming out with diehard lawnmowers and other lawn and garden epuipment by this fall after Craftsman stopped supplying them with lawnmowers right before lawn and garden season last spring, probably just a lie they told store managers because it was looking pretty ridiculous in the store not having lawn mowers at the peak of lawn mowing season.
The DieHard brand is virtually worthless outside of the Sears environment as is Kenmore.
Good luck Eddie. Time to strip the copper wires out of the remaining real estate holdings......thats about all that is left.
