Sales is brought on another person and Delivery is hired another manager. This is not sitting well with a lot of people considering so many are about to loose their jobs within the next week or two.
How about we bring on Software Engineers to fix the issues and deliver the features the customers want with the cDVR components? How about we hire QA people to properly test the product before it is available to customers?
The reality is Cisco may well have gotten the better end of this deal by selling it.
what do you mean "hire QA people"?
I thought engineering was supposed to be modern these days - ever heard of DevOps?
the idea that development are the brains that code the cool stuff then give it to some poor QA guy to test - is that really the right way to work?
Perhaps this is why all of our products are failing so badly.
There was talk from AP about an IPO in 2 or 3 years time I think. Problem is that you got to get the right guys to cook the soufflé that people are willing to buy . Can only get so far with BS artists . At some point need some proper R&D buzz and investment directed by some proper talent not ex sales people but engineering managers surely. AP knew this and he did it big time with NDS sale to Cisco.
Most of us are struggling with old PCs that should have been changed out already so not sure how buzzy that is ?
Lets not forget that we are owned by Private Equity and they have previous when it comes to extracting value from companies. Suggest a Google of Permira and AA. As the Sunday Times summarised recently about the AA's recent history " Private Equity flogged this motoring association to the stock market in 2014. It was hobbled from the start. The buyout barons loaded the AA with £3.3 bn in debt and extracted hefty dividends before selling it. The shares once traded above 400 p but are now below 50 p. Membership has fallen from four million in 2014 to 3.19 million. Although still cash-generative , it will take decades to clear the debt pile at this rate. Avoid this stock. 46 p."
It should be clear by now that investment isn't what this company is about. The idea was to buy the business for a song, and just squeeze out of it what they can to turn a small profit. Most likely a lot of the business (e.g. cDVR, Video Processing, etc.) will fade away.
Do more with less.
They gonna have lay-off then get new hires or outsource to another site. Standard operating procedure.
Because it’s easier to lay-off people then outsource the work. Actually hiring or keeping good engineering is too expensive. Remember this just to disintegrate the failed video business and keep as much money after the sale as possible.
