Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Reposting with the updated Anardo disgrace that so many have called out Oxy over.

Bumping the facts back up about Oxy and their track record in light of the continuing deserved decline of the company. Nearly under $40 now - but somehow they will twist that in to something to be proud of.

Re-posting to keep the facts out about Oxy since all you people could come up with was name calling and thumbs down (apparently Piper Alpha etc DIDN'T happen according to Oxy staff thumbing this down and despite the facts that can be easily researched in this post). Keep getting the word out so people know what Oxy and their staff are

Make sure you conform and there is nothing different about you compared to the gang already there. You'll be persecuted until you have to quit your job if you are different and the people doing it will tell you that you deserve it. Don't challenge anyone on anything, you'll be run off. Recognize that almost all 'professional' staff are rejects from other more successful companies and you shouldn't have any problems setting appropriate levels of expectations. Keep your head down and don't make mistakes, other people will grab on to them to make themselves look good at your expense. Oxys 9/80 schedule is really a 9/89 - they will expect you in on your Friday off while making sure they get their bonus hours the other 9 days. It works out at roughly a 9% pay decrease for your hours worked. Don't take an overseas assignment (Oxy have failed everywhere, so that shouldn't be an issue) because you have to work 6 weeks on 1 week off rotation without seeing your family and if you don't like it, they will run you off. Don't expect professional development or support, you are expected to know everything all the time. They aren't wasting money on training and development. If you like persecuting others and helping HR to make your target pay for it, you will fit straight in at Oxy. Other than that, the low pay, no career prospects, track record of fatalities and serious EPA violations and school yard mentality, you should do very well.

Don't forget Piper Alpha, Petrolia, Maynas Carijano, Thunderball, 35R gas line explosion, North Dakota purchase and sale at $1billion loss, Tatweer petroleum, Libya, ALL south American calamities, the now disgraceful evidence and ineptitude of the Anadarko merger their total lack of being able to retain ANY professional staff on any level.

The belief that, according to the people on these boards who work for Oxy, that workplace harassment, bullying and persecution of certain people for being different is NOT bigotry. They will defend that kind of behavior every time.

@4grt: You say I’ll get my severance, but that’s not happening. Oxy is stringing the integration along, providing no communication at best, playing games with many of us just to avoid paying CoC to us, taking away all of our work and activity, and you expect us to want to happily embrace a completely unknown career working for people we have no reason to like or respect? Not happening. Oxy is paying me to take long lunches every day, surf the web, and play video games on my phone. And it looks like that will continue for the foreseeable future. APC still does exist, as a huge albatross of debt around Oxy’s neck, and it will drag Oxy down for a number of years and until all of the legacy APC folks are terminated, move on voluntarily, or decide to jump aboard the Oxy ship. I would love to be terminated, but Oxy’s not giving us that chance. So I’ll sit around and collect my fat paycheck until something good comes along and I decide to leave, because I won’t be jumping aboard the Oxy ship. That may be 1 year, 2 years, or even longer. So APC will continue to exist for at least that long.

There is a reason APC did not survive. If the company was so well run, it will still be thriving. Get over it APC folks. Find the positives, your ideas don’t have to be accepted always. It should be considered but be willing to bend when Oxy team shows you results of prior trials of same idea vs current ideas being implemented. Before you shout Oxy people, I don’t belong to either.

Get over yourselves. Oxy acquired APC. Not the other way around. This whining is getting old. You’ll get your severance. Just like your corrupt APC executives. Just sit on your behind and wait for it.

“Make sure you conform and there is nothing different about you...” I believe this. Never have I ever received an invite to a company party with outfit suggestions. Are Oxy employees so inept at dressing appropriately that they need this?

I’ve also had meetings end abruptly when I suggested a path other than what the Oxy employee intended to do. It’s Oxy’s way or nothing. There’s no hope for a collaborative effort using the best of both companies to build something stronger and better.
