Finally reached the age of 53 with 32 years at the company. I can finally relax. If walked out guaranteed to be given a two year package which gets me to 55 and pension. Was always leaving at 55 anyways. Time to coast and mail it in from now on. Waiting anxiously for the call from HR.
Freedom from the "New" company is within sight.
I no i don't feel bad in any way shape or form. They changed the culture, not me. And FYI, I am one of many in the same position.
I just left in August after 36 years in Houston with Spectra and previous companies. I hit the numbers and could not take any more. I have been through numerous changes in regime over the years and it has never lasted over two years and continued on a downward spiral. We were sold out, but what many don’t realize is a lot of the legacy Enbridge in Houston have the same feeling. So it seems to be a whole new regime that is doing everyone in.
Join the union and let them fight to protect your pension.

Last comment is pretty dumb. I have a feeling that most VPs regret a lot of choices they made. There’s more to life than working all the time and if your aim is prestige, I don’t think you get that being an executive of a t–d fossil fuel company anymore. More likely to be booed than applauded by anyone outside of the industry. The best deal you can get from Enbridge is to accumulate pay increases over the years but stay in position where you can leave on time every night and not think about your job.
If you’re not retiring as a VP or higher after so many years with a pile of stocks, the company either screwed you or you’re incompetent. Such a large outfit, basically in a duopoly, no excuses. I wonder how well the ELT retirements look in comparison. ;)
This company treats employees like c-ap and I love to hear about employees returning the favor.
FYI in Canada we have very favourable employment laws for employees. I personally know 3 co workers who were let go two years ago, 53 and 30 years who got 2 years. So no worries about that if walked. Plus already been to a lawyer so all ready if I get walked. You need to be prepared If not walked then I get to 55 and retire. Either way. No worries at all. Stress is gone. And no risks as I am not in safety sensitive position.
I have always planned to go at 55. Done my retirement planning. Have ample RRSP and wife has pensions. So the lifestyle I want is fully funded.

Can't mail in anything unless you're pulling in at least $500K/YR. And you are most likely not.

I have been with Union Gas for over 25 years and for the most part loved all my positions there and how I was treated for wage, pension and benefits.
Since Enbridge have come to hate the culture and how we are lied to and stroked from the propaganda HR and management pushes. Pension and benefits have become nothing but beneficial after harmonizing.
Look so forward to my numbers day of unreduced pension and get out.
I know of numerous other long term employees at all levels that also have this mind set. So much for the culture
