Thread regarding Symantec Corp. layoffs

Question about severance

What happens to employees who remain at Broadcom for let's say a year after the acquisition is finalized and are then laid off? Will the new company count their previous years with Symantec when calculating their severance or will they only be eligible for the year they were officially working for Broadcom?

I'm sorry if this was asked and answered, but I can't find it.

For someone with 15 years UK severance, that would be the difference between 7.5k basic severence and almost a year pay on Symantec severence. Surely that can’t apply

We have to be careful. What may apply to one country may not apply to another . What you need to do is, identify a broadcom employee in the UK and ask them what it is locally as that'll be the policy.

Is that true about UK severance under Broadcom being bare minimum statuatory severance? That would be a massive loss for many and result in very little reason to be loyal to the company

Broadcom does pay the absolute country minimum for severance. For some European countries this isn't an issue as the minimum severance is really generous. For the UK there is a huge difference between CA severance and what Broadcom pays after the 1 year post transition.

They will keep your seniority. However, they may pay minimum while Symantec is paying average. Theoretically, one may better to be laid off by Symantec now than year after by Broadcom.

Former CA'er. BRCM will honor your years of service with Symantec and add to that whatever time you spend with them. So basically your time rolls over into BRCM. I was on transition so I recieved my 14 years severance and a pretty nice transition bonus so it worked out well.
