If one starts at 12,000 and Norton keeps 2500 and Enterprise keeps 4500, then the total RIFs is approximately 5000. The question is: how many of the 5000 have been notified already - I've heard between 1000 and 2000 - and how many more are there to come.

Headcount is not 12k anymore. 2.5 and 4.5k could be 2.6k and 4.7k, respectively. It could be a difference for few, but probably Art is right here that you should not care about those digits.
Decisions are made by product. If you under good product, they will look your position and if it's in their interest they will apply magic formula which has multiple variables like you salary, seniority and etc. That formula's result will answer does Broadom wants you or not. If not, your manager or a manager of your manager will decide do they need you for a transition. Btw, it's something like that, not exactly.
