I know this might sound heartless, but I'm getting really tired of this place. Things have changed drastically in the past several years and I am long past the point of caring about anything here anymore. Leaving with a nice safety net in a way of severance would be perfect.

I agree, it's heartless. You may be a young something without a family to provide for.
Sounds realistic to me. Severance is a paid vacation on the company. People are losing jobs regardless, and that is a fact.
Severance pay is NOT required by law in MD
You're wishing that you and your colleagues will get laid off so you can get a severance package, and you think it 'might' sound heartless? Severance packages are required with layoffs, think about that...
Maybe instead of putting more negative energy in the air, you should start job searching.
