Thread regarding Fry's Electronics layoffs

Fry's Electronics Wilsonville

Went to the Wilsonville store today (9/11/19) and was shocked to see how empty it was.

Wandered around looking for a couple things and finally found a clerk who took me to where what I wanted should have been.

Shelves were empty! I asked him if they were closing and he said "No, we'll be fully restocked by the end of the month." I thought "good luck on that, pal" and left the store empty-handed.

I won't bee surprised to read that they've closed in a few weeks.

RIP Fry's! (I've been going to this store since is was a Radio Shack Incredible Universe store! It's just to bad.

What happened?

Hey, shout-out also to Tandy/RadioShack Incredible Universe. I was shook when that closed down & became Fry's in Wilsonville in mid 1990's. If this is true that that location may also be in trouble now, then there's not much to say than farewell. I have bought lots of things there over the years. I can remember buying internal PC cards that were still ISA, eventually changing over to PCI & then to today's standards. However, over maybe the last decade or so, my shopping there dramatically dropped off. And it's exactly the same reasons as most of you:. the Internetz. And also about 5+ years ago, I did go to Wilsvonville Fry's regularly but for another reason:. to pickup the latest free copy of CPU magazine. That too eventually stopped at end of 2017, because the mag production also stopped You can still find digital copies of old issues on internet. It didn't help Fry's that that was all I went in there for most of the time. So now I may have to visit it soon. The same thing happened with the local RadioShack, I hadn't gone there in years & when I came in one day in Spring 2017, they were starting to liquidate & so I bought as much as I could that were 50 to 90 percent off. I had been going there since the 1980s. Anyway this "China's fault" as most of you are saying does sound odd to me, but also at the same time partly makes sense, with the tariff issues & all these past couple years. Who knows, maybe the Coronavirus now may also be partly in play.
RIP Frys, if it's happening.

By the end of the month? Didnt you read? Our representative spokesperson (never heard of the guys name personally) stated within the next few weeks more product. Now lets break this down...

Our store managers are leaving in some stores already-fact.

New product can be one item, to fulfill that statement-fact. Could also be numerous items, most likely a mix of mostly items that wont make any really profit added up, with a small percentage actually being product people want (like...you know...electronics items in an electronics store) which will sell in a couple days, putting the store even worse stocked again.

They've also been telling us nee stock for going on about a year now since we first noticed the lack of keeping all shelves full-stocked.

I also find it humorous a frys spokesman informed the news something, yet not even the employees are hearing this or the store managers being told straight up “the plan”. Guess the employees have to read the news whats going on since John, Randy, and his two district managers arent telling anyone the full plan in a straight matter.

Breakdown: Frys got pressured to give an answer; gave the same BS answer product is coming they've been saying for going on a year now. Im at least glad some vendors are speaking up to shed light on the truth of the matter. Im just curious exactly how much $$$ Frys is in debt.

So let me get this straight. They've been on a spiral down turn all year, not restocking shelves, supposedly vendors are getting screwed, and their talented employees all quit. Now they said that they are not going out of business, but rather redoing some contractual agreement with vendors? Is that right? What vendors want to continue doing business with such uncertainty? What smart employee wants to return and see that there is not future in this company? Someone is smoking a big doobie.

All the district managers have confirmed that they secured new vendors and stock is supposed to be rolling in by end of the month. Idk if it will be enough though. Stores and staff are too far gone.

My dad works there, they have no clue what's happening. They are telling them that China is the problem - I do not trust that...
