My mom was just laid off, I'm wondering how long will it take before she receives the severance? Does anybody know?

You can collect unemployment asap and bank it and use severance to take time to recover. That's what I did when my job was eliminated a few years ago. I got a job before severance ran out and the unemployment was money in the bank. there is a 1 week waiting for unemployment so plan accordingly.
Your mom should have gotten a pack with all this information in it. It explains everything.
There is an event at the Sheraton today for people laid off this week. It started at 9.

1 other thing, your Mom can start collecting unemployment the day after her last day of work. The fact that she has to sign an "agreement" to get severance allows her to collect unemployment at the same time, kinda shweeet for a bit!
I was let go in Feb. You have to sign the agreement and return it. Then you start to get your severance. I essentially had a gap of one week before the first severance check.
I got unpaid pto, in my last paycheck.
When I was laid off a couple years ago from Staples, I remained on the payroll for an additional 2 weeks, then severance kicked in after that, but there was no drop off, severance kicked in as soon as I was no longer on payroll. I would imagine it should remain the same. Tell your Mom good luck, I've been there, it's no fun, but it's a minor hiccup, and she'll land on her feet and be much happier for it.
It depends on her last day of work. She will most likely have to sign the agreement in order for the severance to start. She will have a period of time before she has to sign but no severance starts until you have worked your last day and until that agreement is signed. Once that is done there is usually a week delay between the last regular pay check and the first severance check. Also keep in mind that severance is taxed differently but a good HR Rep will be able to explain everything. And, the documents provided by Staples are usually very good and detailed. Everything should be in the documents.
