The fact that most complaints are around timing of financial aid disbursements, and not academic quality - which would be a legitimate concern - is telling.
With all due respect, and I sincerely mean that, this continues to feel like old news, and it’s hard to imagine any organized, concerted effort coming out of government regulatory bodies or legislators these days, even for issues larger than this one. I wonder if the current situation won’t instead be resolved by the marketplace through the increasing competition across higher ed, shake out of overcapacity in the system, and push within traditional universities to adopt some of the characteristics and methods originally pioneered and perfected by the for-profit schools. After all, it seems everybody is now getting into online education.
