Thread regarding Symantec Corp. layoffs

Broadcom shares

  • When been made a stay offer during an acquisition, do Broadcom offer any initial stock during the offer stage - such as RSU’s?
  • How often does it occur that RSU’s are issued/promised and an employee is terminated before the RSU’s vest - and presumably lose the lot.

@dbfh playing devils advocate here in which the opposite can happen. semiconductor sales plummet or newly acquired Symantec is a total drain on EPS. The result is a melting snowball 600 shares worth diddly 7 years later.

Hock claimed yesterday that the continous acquisitions are driving up the share price. The 600 share may be worth 180k right now but by the end of the 7 years they're worth 270k. The more companies they acquire, the higher the share price rises. It's like a snowball system.

600 shares is all they gave or that is one years? At peak rate of $300 that would be 180K for 7 years. Which on average is 25K per year. Most companies pay better than this. In other posts people have claimed to get 70K worth equity per year. What am I missing here.

If you have stocks that have already vested they are completely yours to do whatever you want to do with them. Sell them or keep them if you think Symantec will go up.

So If I have vested RSU and ESPP do I need to sell it know before the merge or not?

When you get your offer letter which depends on country laws it will tell you how many shares you will get and also the annual bonus.
Shares were based on your job title / job band and not related to your annual salary.
I received 600 shares which was extremely generous as I am non management position but at the same band as a manager. I will also receive 20% annual bonus that could payout between 75% to 150% depending upon division and corporate goals reached. Payouts in past years have been extremely generous reaching 150% of corporate goals.
I received my offer letter last December and my shares started to distribute quarterly since June of this year. Shares are distributed before the divided payouts for that quarter which is nice. As you are given a block of 4 years worth of shares the last bit will distribute at 7 years. After 4 years Hock Tan mentioned he will find another way to reward employees.

I hear based on their assessment of your position they may offer one grant of 50% to 90% of your base salary. But keep in mind that these will vest in 4 years and there is no guarantee that you will have the employment until then to see them all vested.
