Thread regarding Nestle layoffs

lay-offs

So tired of living under this cloud. At the moment looks like I’ll be 64 when my 60-day notice is official. I was in perfect health and could run a route better than most people half my age. Been doing it over 40+ years. Nestle and DG have s—ed that livelihood out of me. And WHAT company will invest much money in someone who they know will be retiring in 2-3 years?...

I’m more blessed than many people here. I will be able to draw SS and retirement. But I have too much debt to live on that alone. We had a plan and were on track to eliminate that. THANKS Nestle!

Also… I’m working under a new DSL with no route management experience (less than a year) . Why did nestle hire him? They had to know what was about to happen

If you are in debt at age 64 you have more problems than nestle. Get on a written budget. Google the 7 baby steps.

well if your 64 and leaving nestle with the transition and have been an employee for 10 years or more you are eligible for the RMRA account that nestle doesnt tell anyone about. the retirement medical reimbursement account. call hr and ask if you are eligible. after 55 and vested for ten years nestle puts 200$ per month for every month you have been employed by them for medical expenses but u can also use it to buy INSURANCE. ive been here 24 years but i will only be 53 when we fold so i get screwed out of @60000 of rmra. just call and check it wil mae u feel better if u didnt already know about it.

I stated this post and I just re-read it. I hope it didn't appear that i was trying to slam my DSL. He's aggravated just like everyone else. I've had no problem working with him. It just seems like poor management to have hired all the new DSL and within a year showing them the exit door. Most of these people probably left good, secure jobs.
BTW...I did have ambition. I was DSL (different company) for several years. I know the headaches DSL face 24/7. I made several attempts to get out of route sales when I realized how the business was changing. I always ended up back in it. I'm thankful for the years that I was able to provide a decent income for my family. I wish you all the best.

Love it when people start a sentence( not to be rude) and then they’re rude. Maybe some dont want mgmt. Everybody has diff views on what success is. Whoever that guy is that loves to troll ams smack down on his co workers from his high perch, why dont you work on your (people skills) compassions, empathy, etc, sounds like you have everything else in your life perfected..... according to you. I have more confidence that that man thats 64, will succeed in life way more than the tool that slings it on people hurting. To the op, im sure someone will love to have you on their team, good luck

Not to be rude, but I am genuinely curious.

Why would you have 40+ years of experience and not develop yourself where you could apply for a management role?

Then sit on here and wonder why someone with no route experience get placed in that type position?

Maybe if people such as yourself were more ambitious and developed in a way that you were promotable then there would be less outsiders that come in and become key decision makers in the daily processes.

You gave the company no other option than to bring the inexperienced outsiders in.

Just a thought. I wish you all the best.

If you’ve been around that long you know nothing makes sense in this business. I worked for an ice cream company twenty years ago( before nestle bought them out) and they switched from pack and peddle routes to pre -order. Spent millions on trucks for the sales reps and aluminum racks for the stores. They sold off all the side door trucks and bought rear plate trucks. ( the same ones we have now) A year later they canned the ceo and brought in a new one and lo and behold, he stated we are going back to the old format. So millions of dollars blown in two years for nothing. Does that make sense? Then nestle came in a couple of years later and bought out the company and chopped it up. They left a shell company for tax purposes- ice cream partners. That company was Haagen daazs.....
