Thread regarding Symantec Corp. layoffs

Good luck tomorrow

Well, looks like the word about layoffs tomorrow has really gotten around - I don't remember when the mood was this somber in the office the last time. I just hope it will not be as bad as some of us are fearing...but who knows.

In any case, good luck everybody! May those who want out receive a package, and those who want to stay receive some good news.

  1. update your linked-in while you still have access to records of what you've done at SYMC

You can set linked-in profile to not show any changes until you're ready to open it for "actively looking"

  1. use your newly updated linked-in profile to customize your resume for every job application
  1. take advantage of services that SYMC included in severance-package, like resume-review, interview-practice, and even job-search
  1. Apply unemployment. It's money that's available to you.
  1. if you can afford it, take a breather. Go somewhere you've always wanted to go with your loved ones. I didn't look actively for 3 months.
  1. Let your old colleagues who no longer at SYMC know you got RIF'ed. All the ones I talked to were very very helpful. At the very least, they were excellent in listening to my complaints, and provided laughters with good-old-war-story from SYMC time.

Good luck... it's not the end of the world... keep your head up.

I went thru this saw last march, and it was sad. It was my first layoff and shock of my life. But what is important is to express and let lose yourself and bring those feeling out.
You have been successful and worked for a great company, time to make a switch, you can do it!
Get up start searching for a Job, take advantage of unemployment insurance which will pay regular salary for few month, and job search service from symantec.

Ping all your contacts and message them let them know your situation, they might help you thru references. Prepare your linkedin and resume, start applying for jobs and contacting recruiters.
I was able to schedule 7/8 interview within next 2 days of news. 2 months later , i am into my dream job. Keep your motivation and spirit high ! Cheer up! Its a phase that you will pass thru..

Wish you the best !

The change was likely made from a quarterly numbers perspective. Offload the severance payouts to the next quarter. If the renewed Broadcom stuff is true then it makes even more sense.

The postponement 2 weeks ago happened at the last minute in US time. There was lots of folks in other regions who had already got their invites to meetings they couldn't refuse. Those then had to be hastily cancelled. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put two and two together.
I don't know why the powers that be made the change, but they really screwed the pooch on this one.

So they are already notifying people that they are being let go? Is there a certain group/s being told already?

Good luck everyone! I already know I am on the list and my meeting has been scheduled. Looking forward to finally moving on after weeks if you’re let go, oh just kidding, well you’re let go again. I hear others who had been notified will be pushed to September, so they are still planning for a second round next month.

Good luck indeed.

Regardless of being laid off or not I won't be around SYMC much longer, just hoping to get that final ESPP and then I'm out.
