It’s getting really scary now. I think there’s going to be a mass lay-off it’s almost inevitable. My team seems to be running scared. Working tons of hours couldn’t even try to apply for a job all I have time for is sleep by the time I get home. Things were going really well and all of a sudden we hit a wall. Is anyone seeing this too?

I got my notice in January 9, 2019. After I worked all weekend trying to get a Migration to a new server done. They told me my last day would be MARCH 31.. So I was given the 60 day grace period. I worked for STT for 11 years. So I got the 10 + 22 weeks. Last I heard starting today, the company has modified the package and took out the mandatory weeks and are just giving employees the 2*every year of employment. This action signifies that they are about to do a new round of layoffs and they have reduced the costs to layoff by eliminating the mandatory weeks.
I found my new job 2.5 months later and they matched what I was making at STT, great thing is its a local company too only 17 miles from my home vs. commuting to NYC.
I started STT when I was only 31 and the thing I regretted the most was I got too comfortable. We didn't evolve into any new technology or anything so pretty much my skills stayed stagnant.
During the months I received the notice up until I landed my new job I kept myself busy learning and keeping up to date with the new tech skills I needed to pass interviews. The interviews came slow up until the end of May, It was at that time I received 3 interviews within a weeks time and landed the one I got now.
It's a tough market out there, but you got to keep persistent. The worse thing you can do is just sit around hoping something falls on your lap.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!! I'll keep you in my prayers!
I know a number of people 55 plus that got new jobs fairly easily, but they were technical and had current skills. All got the same or more money than State Street. It depends on your skills and background.
@10jXMPje-cseI have to disagree i know personally ppl in their 50’s that are finding new jobs, news avenues, and same type of job and pay. It’s the people in their 60’s that really get discriminated against. Most ppl don’t want to really retire in their early 60’s but there’s definite discrimination with that age group. I feel badly for anyone laid off it’s a bad feeling and experience life feels very heavy and distressing. But I can say from experience things will get better but it is a horrible place to be until you find a new job Good luck everyone!
@The people I feel sorry for , our the people in their mid 50's who are going to face massive
discrimination when trying to find a new job.
They will find out nobody is interested in people over 50, and if you do find a job your goign to
take a 35% +++ PAY CUT
Yes told in late May we will train India to take our jobs. It’s everywhere now and so many have been let go already. It awful training online this Indian person to take my job soon. A job I love and do well at And deserve to keep. 23 years here at SWC andntnused tk be a great company and now is the worst company in many areas. Very sad how it has changed. We all need to get out and leave this establishment.
Could not disagree more. Think rock bottom was 6 months ago.
Pretty sure no one left gives a F now and knows we’re all on borrowed time. Anyone who cares left a while back.
Most of the teams I deal with now have trained counterparts in LCLs and they’re starting to carry the load.
