Short answer: yes

I agree with John's 100,000 ft observations in principle, but in the case of Fry's I think it just comes down to bad corporate management and running it into the ground. Still room for brick n' mortar electronics stores, and the PC industry has had a bit of a renaissance the last few years imo. Perfect timing to go after that high-end hobbyist sector similar to what MicroCenter has done, but too little too late at this point.

Re: The Demise of Fry's and other Retailers across America and the World.
The view from 100,000 (as many of you know) can perhaps be summed up with the Proverbial 7 Steps; in rough order of occurrence:

  1. Availability and dropping prices of PCs
  2. Improved software with "Point and Click"
  3. The Internet and The Web
  4. High-Speed Home Connections
  5. The Fed ... has "Fed" Mortgage Bubbles with low Interest rates: (Where Banks like to put their money instead of loaning it out to Companies or Retailers like Fry's.)
  6. Lower and decreasing costs of Online Sales (Esp. for Mom & Pop "Stores" online. ... even Amazon "owns & stocks" less than 40% of all items sold and shipped by them)
  7. Availability of FAST Delivery by LARGE firms who can fund their own operations. e.g. FedEx, USPS, UPS, etc.

But God help us if when there is a massive "reset" or failure of our Monetary, Social, Delivery, Infrastructure (Air, Water, Power), Etc.
