Houston is a GREAT city with just as much or more to offer than Denver. Arts, education, medical community. I would gladly move to Houston to keep the paychecks going - then retire in CO. Try to find comparable or new job opportunities in Denver vs Houston. Larger city = deeper job market with more growth and churn. i grew up in the industry living in Midland, San Antonio, Middle East, Bartlesville, Tulsa, and Denver. it is just part of moving up in the industry. Love CO very much but you’ve got to follow the money. BTW my spouse would prob divorce me if I moved to Houston.

I’m tired of Midland getting a bad wrap. We love waiting 2+ hours to get a table at Outback. We enjoy the potholes and random road construction that makes our drive to the beautiful claydesta zoo (office) 25min instead of 10min. The 110 degree days are fine as long as you have an auto starter on your car with a 2 hr lead time. Look there is a pump jack next to my $700,000 house and I’m damn proud of the amount of times the pullover unit shows up to yank that tubing. Bring on Oxy! I hope they move all you a–holes to midland!

None of those companies had the footprint APC has in the Rockies. Nor the successful program APC has in the DJ. BP has moved their entire onshore organization back to Denver from Houston.

I worked at amoco in 1999. They never said they would keep a Denver office. Not once.

Chevron, Amoco, Shell, Conoco all had offices in Denver that were relocated to Houston. They also had a larger operations footprints in the Rockies than APC has right now. Beware of corporate promises.

Oxy would self destruct if they don't maintain a Denver presence to pacify the crazies around the DJ Basin. You guys are clueless about what it takes to operate in that area. It has absolutely nothing to do with keeping technical talent close to the well head. Go give it a try if your so great.

If they keep an office in Denver it won't be for fear of paying employees a severance. Do any of you seriously believe a company wouldn't find every possible way to avoid paying people that much money if they can? That is exactly what HR is designed for: protecting the company from financial blowback. I also think you are granting wayyyyyy too much credit to company management if you think they'll make logical decisions.

The lease is up in 2033. There are a number of reasons they will keep a Denver office. They know that most people in Denver will not move to Houston. I don’t think OXY wants to pay all those people two years pay to leave. They have a talented knowledgeable staff in Denver who knows the DJ Basin through and through. There is so much momentum in the DJ... record production despite the political headwinds in Colorado.

Why would the company continue to lease office space in Denver? It’s 2019 we don’t need our technical people close to the well head. It would be more beneficial to have all technical people together. They will keep a field office but after the lease is up (or after a year) I’m betting they move all Denver people to Houston.

It’s a garbage post. OXY has stated unequivocally that they intend to keep a Denver operation. I believe them. And if not I will glad walk out the door with two years pay... as will most folks who work here. Have fun operating the DJ with no experienced DJ people!

Does anyone actually have a reason to suspect the Denver office will close?

Thank God I don't live in Houston OR Midland. I would never, EVER move to south Texas. It's a complete sh–hole wasteland.

lol the hardcore Denver folks are almost as bad as the LA elitists. Other places can be fun, too. The idea of Houston being a terrible place to live is laughable when you consider that some oil and gas people live in places like Artesia, New Mexico. Midland is actually on the O.K. end of that spectrum, if you can get off your high horse and believe it.

Hahaha better to be unemployed in Denver than live in Houston? Houston isn’t f—ing Midland, TX.... Does anyone in the Denver office realize they work Oil and Gas? I don’t care who the hell you work for, but at some point most people will end up in Houston if they want to make a career of it. But hey if it’s not for you, oh well. You can fall back on the severance and go work some other job that pays half of what you make now (if you’re lucky) in one of the most expensive areas to live in the US and see how things play out.
