GE cashed out of its investment holdings last year with some profit before Pivotal crashed. Reading the article it mirrors an awful lot of GE Digital. Me Thinks NewCO should merge with them, and start gunning for world history record of biggest platform fail. Replace everything in article about Pivotal with GE Digital Predix and you couldn't tell the difference....
The founder of apcera who came from pivotal conned Ericsson the same way and it too flamed out similarly. He even wrote

Why do all these articles exactly describe Predix, San Ramon Culture and GE Digital though? Everything of value GE Digital has is from an external acquisition.

Pivotal was sh– from the getgo. No one was going to pay their absurd licensing model, for marginal technology that was being quickly obsoleted. Missing the ball oh K8S was unforgivable.

They pivoted alright.... straight down 80 degrees. Pivotal didn't understand how to work opensource. Its all about building an engaged community not a pay to play federation of proprietary solutions around an open core– where each member is consuming the open core but not contributing their enhancements upstream but keeping them proprietary. Kubernetes came from behind and won because it is truly open and became a defacto standard. Cloud Foundry and Openstack were made to fail together.
