Thread regarding Williams Cos. layoffs

Pittsburgh Office Closing

All job postings for Pittsburgh have been taken down. They will be dispersed to local field offices for local job functions and more central jobs will be relocated to Tulsa. This already happened with measurement out of Pittsburgh.

the reason the tulsa will stay open, and get bigger, is that the people making the decisions on who to fire and which offices to close live and work in tulsa. let's be real, they are not going to fire themselves for make themselves move to a different city.

Aside from having a 100 year history in Tulsa, I believe there are other reasons. Cost of living is lower, so they pay less. Tulsa only has a couple of major employers, besides Williams. So finding a new job requires relocation. The state government would also do about anything to keep Williams. It's a good market for cheap, captive labor.

PIT opened with a lot of fanfare. Regular intranet posts about how we all needed to move here. Even if a lease is signed, it can be subleased or the lease sold to another company. As to rumors on this site, that’s pretty much what it’s for! I figure those who need to be with an operations group will be moved out there while this office will either be shrunk to the first couple floors or gotten out of completely. Williams isn’t going to keep paying for space for a gym and a snack bar.

You're right. There is no business reason to keep Tulsa open. There are no customers there. Only tradition.

It will be Pittsburgh or Salt Lake City. They are definitely closing one.

I think they may have a much smaller office, i see them becoming a sales office just attending to customer needs such as Chevron and Cabot. As long as they have offices in Pittsburgh don’t see Williams closing up shop in pitt. They wanted it this way for many years but had too many projects to manage from a far. I do think it’s a mistake to eliminate the office but it would not surprise me one iota if they try it Just my opinion.

They have never liked Northerns. Doesn’t surprise me one bit if they send all the SMEs back to Tulsa and do the engineering there as well. It would be a throw back to when the offices first opened when there only a handful of locals and they came in by charter plane every week to set us on the path to glory.

Grain of salt. They just signed a long term lease in April. Strange.

Why would someone put this up there without some kind of verification, this could be hurtful for a lot of people. It's nice to have info, but this is critical information.
