I was just at Sunnyvale and Brokaw-San Jose stores.

Employees there seemed confident they would have ongoing jobs, which is amazing given the shelves at both stores are almost totally bare.

It seems something is happening.

They said “new stock is coming” which I pushed back on as absurd given how empty the stores are, but they didn't seem swayed.

Their responses also pushed back on someone buying Frys.

Maybe Frys is going back to groceries, which is where they started.

That would explain the empty stores and why remaining employees seem confident of long term jobs.

Or maybe repositioning into something other than groceries.

My guess is that Fry's will go the Amazon route and be an on-line store only. So sad. Looks like Central Computer prices will Increase now that the competition is folding like a cheap suit.

That'd be interesting. I was at Sunnyvale the other day to get a new hard drive and they had nothing...I couldn't even find an employee to ask. Gotta support the local stores...hopefully Central Computer won't die out like this.

Fry’s supermarkets and Fry’s Electronics are separate entities. I believe two of the sons of Fry’s grocery stores started the electronics stores with seed capital from their father; or something like that.

So no, locations won’t turn into a grocery stores since the stores are too big (unless they split the buildings up into smaller sections, otherwise they would be bigger than some Costco locations) and groceries is also a super competitive, low-margin business. Amazon also competes in this sector now which is, in part, a reason Fry’s Electronics is going out of business. Somehow Best Buy was able to turn things around over the last 5 years, though.

The store is being restock. The new merchandise is invisible.
