Increase margin by cutting cost.
The tech job market in the SF Bay Area is really hot. There are so many companies, ranging from startups to the FAANGs which are desperate for good engineers. These companies appreciate the value of engineers in the Bay Area, even though they are much more expensive than those in India.
I personally don't feel threatened by engineers in India. A company that is focused on outsourcing engineering to India to reduce costs has probably reached a stage where it's not an interesting place for me.
Slash costs = more profit...if a high cost location or person isn't absolutely essential, they will be gone eventually, At the day's end, this is all about money.
Because India is CHEAP and the reason behind every SITE closure.
