You're right redundancy is ignorant and stupid, who needs it. Certainly not on your backbone.

Never heard such ignorant comments?? You do realize this is not an official message board, ppl here are just screwing around shooting the sh–. If the company relied on correcting the issue with ideas from in here Id say we are all in serious trouble.

REALLY!!! A DC plant caused NY, NJ, and Connecticut to go down hard, now that's a robust network. Has Altice wiped out all redundancy or ever heard of a mesh network. Also didn't the 5ESS switch tech take the package a few months ago.

Lol look at all those acronyms to try and confuse people.

Could always have said something like "We had multiple power and hardware failures which led to widespread system outage. Attempts at restoration were met with further issues until functionality was restored at 3AM."

But that would be too respectful for them to treat people like adults.

Official explanation...

The service outage September 6-7, 2019 was due to a Lightpath DC Power Plant failure. The root cause of the failure is still under investigation and a formal RFO will be sent out within the next few days. After power was restored to Lightpath equipment, multiple platform and equipment failures followed. Internet, DWDM, Metro Ethernet & MPLS services were all restored at approximately 3am EST. Multiple voice issued remained including remote management issues which delayed the restoration process. After the management and visibility was restored it was found that all Switch Modules remained down within Lightpath 5ESS Voice switch. Vender TAC along with field support reloaded the 5ESS which was a tedious task. All 3 Elements within the switch was shut down gracefully including AM’s, CM’s and SM’s followed by subsidiary modules. The 5ESS switch was restored via the reload at approximately 12pm EST. Diagnostic checks were then performed on all equipment affected. All performance monitors have been error free and stable since the initial occurrence. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused your business. Again, an official RFO will be sent out by end of week.

Never heard such ignorant comments in my life!
Pay the electric bill? Wow you have zero idea how things work, do you?
"A major fiber cut"? Completely clueless statement! Showing how little you know about the job/company/system that provides you a lively hood
As Mark Twain once said,
“It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt”
