It seems like this has been so long and so slow that now the national media barely notices. Ten years ago, it would have been big news if Kmart and Sears vanished in one poof and a lot of questions would have been asked by the politicians, media, and public. Now, the entire plug could be pulled on Sears and Kmart, both the biggest retailers in the country only one generation ago, and nobody would blink. It is an amazingly uneventful ending to two American icons.
