Thread regarding Fry's Electronics layoffs

the Duluth, GA store was a "ghost town" on August 31. Now that I know that even the stores on Fry's home turf in California are in the same state of low stock, I think they are "circling the drain" as a company.

Every dog has its day, so the old saying goes. Fry's appears to have past its prime.

I agree, it is a bummer. I started buying chips and other components from the first Fry's in Sunnyvale. The original store was near the current one, but was about the size of a 7-11. No consumer electronics then, just components, PCB board, wire wrap tools, soldering iron stations, etc. and aimed primarily at R&D engineers. They moved to a larger store sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s.

A true bummer. That was the first location I've ever been to. This was 2011, coming from the country to a whole new place, and seeing an awesome place like this absolutely blew my mind! I've never seen a store with so many electronics. I'd always make excuses to come back to look around, there was so much to see! Last time I visited this location was circa 2016, Not many people around at this time, but the store looked healthy enough to stand on it's feet. I suppose now it's not the case and it's time to lay to rest. Gwinett Place Mall isn't any better, like that whole area is on it's way out! Those memories visiting that area for the first time will warm me up being my first time seeing such a great place. The people I met, and how I got to help someone assemble their first PC! it was glorious, then after that we played Fallout New Vegas, and other new games to see what it could do! Even if the entire plaza gets torn down, I also remember people paying me to get their systems rocking and rolling! Windows 7 was the shiz! I'll always remember it fondly. fun times!

Also last time I visited (2016), so many un-owned cars in the parking lot. I wonder if they're stored there for a dealership or something? shrugs I'd imagine they're still there XD
