Thread regarding Grant Thornton LLP layoffs

Grant Thornton is “Houston we got a problem”

A firm in crisis. Recent layoffs have impacted culture and morale. Short term action by inexperienced leaders at the expense of long term growth.

Avoid GT, really... The firm culture resembles a high school drama venue with gossip, and popularity that will ultimately determine your pay raise and success/promo/longevity with the firm.

To further peel the onion:

  • Non-merit based ranking system (I.e. based upon friendships as opposed to difficulty of work)
  • Unappreciative managers and partners (As evidenced by top-down orders for partners and managers to show more appreciation because of extremely high turn-over)
  • So many employees are unhappy working at GT that people are leaving faster than they can be replaced. - Lowest compensation in the auditing industry
  • Comparable hours to the big 4 and experience is not as good.
  • Middle market audit firm means some people have year-round busy season
