Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Why should I accept a job from a company that is always laying off engineers?

Many of us asked that question. I wondered it. "Why am I going to work for someone who lays off people when they do bad?". Many of us took the job.

A shoddy product because they let greed blind them is costing the company. And now they might lay off engineers.

If I get laid off, I'm not coming back, I'll take my skills to another company, aerospace or non aerospace, you can apply engineering to many products.

Article recently stated that aero and mech engineers are starting to be in high demand in the Silicon Valley due to a hardware renaissance. Oh well.

Why is everyone assuming OP isn't looking?

That's fine, stick around for severance. Meanwhile, people are out there taking jobs you would be more qualified for.

You ALWAYS have more leverage to negotiate salary while you are EMPLOYED. If you wait until you are let go, you have to take what they offer or keep looking.

Enjoy, I have two interviews next week.

So, here is the part I don't get. Why wait till you get laid off. When that happens, you are going to compete for the jobs out there with everyone else that got the ax.

If you leave BEFORE the layoff, you have less competition. Worse, if you are in the third or fourth wave of layoffs, there are less jobs left to get.

Just a thought. I'd start interviewing now.

It doesn't have to be in Silicon Valley. Demand is all over the country.

Good point but how much can someone make in Silicon Valley to maintain a life there? Software engineers will make enough hardware maybe not so much.
