Thread regarding Fry's Electronics layoffs

My take on things ..

So let's look at the business methodically. The main warehouse in Tennessee is closed. Stores are shipping items now, the website doesn't seem built for the long haul. operating software is dilapidated. Seems like a slow liquidation is going on. Employees in the dark. One store for sure has been announced to close.. if they don't close down completely, they are pulling back and having a downsize soon. I have a feeling Black Friday will be the last hurrah !

I work for Frys and yes they did have a warehouse in Tennese. We called it store 48. It was the frys.com warehouse where they would ship online orders from. Now they do online orders from the stores

The Tennessee location was not the main warehouse it was frys.com. Main warehouse (return to vendor) is in Hanford,Ca and almost closed as well.

If you look at the various store walk-through videos recently posted on YouTube, you will see extremely low inventories in the aisles of multiple stores in multiple states.

If they don’t have any stuff in distribution centers and not getting delivery from vendors (possibly due to cash-flow issues and running behind too far in payments to receive shipments), then they might not have much to sell other than larger home appliances, bottled water and soda, snacks, perfumes, mattresses and no-name HDMI cables by Black Friday. If they make it that far as of September 1, 2019.

OTOH, I imagine there being some decent flatscreen deals given the market saturation and significant price drops over the last ~5 years of TVs. Might be worth wait it out and keep an eye on price drops, if you want a fridge, generator, AC, TV, etc.

If you have any “nostalgic feels” for Fry’s Electronics, I’d recommend getting to one for one last visit before they’re officially a done deal. It will probably be sooner than later.
