Oh, and I should point out that when the site was closed over a year ago, there was a long notice period (over 3 months, I believe), and people who were let go at that time were given their pay.

The closing of a west coast site is a misunderstanding/misrepresentation of what happened. Over a year ago Symantec decided to shut down the Springfield, OR site. A large number of employees were let go, and a large number of employees were transitioned to remote. Symantec sold the building, and leased back a small portion (about 1/8th) of the building.

A few people had permanent desks there, but the majority of that footprint was reserved as meeting rooms and hot desks for employees who needed to be in the office for one reason or another. A few weeks ago the remaining permanent desks were moved to remote or eliminated, and last week Symantec officially ended its lease in the building. Because everyone there was already remote, the site wouldn't have qualified for WARN regardless.

Re: Closure of remote office to avoid WARN notice.
Is this supposition, or did the employees NOT get the 2 months notice or payment? Not likely that Sym/remainco would risk lawsuits over a few months salary for several employees. Small potatoes in the scheme of things. Too much of a risk.

There’s enough actual bad stuff going on. Unless you are sure, don’t instigate FUD.

DO NOT KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER TO INDIA COUNTERPARTS!!
The moment your manager ask you to provide training, you should know what will happen next. You're in DANGER!!! Look for the signs!

FYI people, if you are a remote employee or in a small office space somewhere provided by SYMC you are not eligible for WARN and will not get the extra 60 days pay.

It looks as if SYMC just rushed the closure of a west coast office in order to be able to avoid paying WARN salary benefits to a large number of now remote employees.

@10OVP2qx-zat Employed by BRCM. Short term contract for 6 months or 1 year. The full list will be completed after decision on the sites has been made.

It's pretty simple:
1) If Broadcom wants you to STAY, they will give you a (probably better) offer and Symantec will not provide a RIF package. If you decline the Broadcom offer, it's like quitting. No WARN, no severance
2) If Broadcom wants you to TRANSITION, they give you a contract offer with a bonus to hang on until the defined end date (no need to WARN) and Symantec will not provide a RIF package. If you decline the Broadcom offer, it's like quitting. No WARN, no severance
3) If Broadcom does not offer you to STAY or TRANSITION, Symantec will RIF you if you're not due to stay with RemainCo. You get 60+ days WARNing (you will be a Symantec employee for 60+ days after the notification) and a severance package after your termination date.

Unless you are positive you will get a STAY offer from Broadcom AND you want to work for them: start shopping for a job, don't be very productive at work (focus on interviews) and hope you get RIFed. Getting RIFed with a job offer in hand is the best outcome.

@10OVP2qx-1mga I don't know how many thread have discussed this - Broadcom is not paying the severance this round. Symantec pays severance under Symantec conditions and any past Broadcom experiences do simply not apply. This may differ when transitional offers will end under Broadcom in future.

No, if you get RIFed you'll be covered by the WARN act, so you'll get your regular pay for 60+ days. You remain an employee for 60+ days when they give you notice. Your last day as an employee is your termination date. Your last day in the office is usually 1 week aftr they give you notice.

Try to time your new job start date the day after your termination date so that you have no interruption in salary and benefits yet still get the maximum time relaxing.

You'll need to start a job immediately because BRCM takes up to 60 days to pay out.

It's better to shop for a job now so that by the time the decisions are made, you have something lined up already. Then, if you're lucky, you'll get RIFed. You'll get a juicy severance package and can take a nice extended break before starting your new job.

Transition offer is the best option in terms of Package , salary , also you will have enough time to plan your leave , because your contract will contain the end date.

So No worries Fellas ! Baldy GO Symantec !

Find this extremely hard to believe. Full site decision making will be complete the week after.
