Thread regarding Cerner Corp. layoffs

Layoffs Are Happening - Consulting Side

Mike Nill informed a group of executives yesterday that Consulting will undergo a series of layoffs starting Wednesday, across all roles and areas within Consulting. HR has already made the decisions and will be sending out emails to individuals directly. Concern on the call was about impact to clients. Posting because people deserve to know.

Yes let the majority of those that came from McKesson go. Most received written disciplinary warnings a few weeks prior and all over the age of 50. They hired a group fresh out of college just about 5 months ago. Had the experienced group train them and then either fired or laid them off. Worst company ever!

Yes, Netsmart did layoffs on Friday April 3rd. Possible more to come, they are not announcing when this will happen. Need to find out if they are required to announce the layoffs.

I wouldn't go to Netsmart. I haven't heard good things. They are likely to go the same way as Cerner.

I was informed by my manager, that our senior leader ship was affected and The severance package was 60 days pay +2 weeks for every year of service. Supposedly if you are in Kansas City, the campuses have heightened security and a lot of activity with people who were affected.

It sounds like the layoffs started this morning. Some big names were included, I feel terrible for those affected.

I've been in the workforce for the last 2 recessions and have seen my share of layoffs, but this is a new one for me. Cerner is still growing, or those 2 towers being built at Innovations is a giant waste of money. But they have acknowledged their operating margins have been in a gradual decline for the last 4 years, so they do need to cut costs and it's pretty much impossible to completely ignore workforce in that equation.

We've been in a hiring freeze since April, so if you were recently hired it's likely because of an escalation where a position urgently needed to be filled. Also, with non-union jobs, they tend to go after higher salaries, which is not typically newbies. But in the jobs I had that were union, higher seniority was safer, but they ALWAYS targeted union employees for layoffs, management was never considered, no matter how worthless they were.

Could these cuts extend to ITWorks sites? Or mostly KC based staff?

Official in the UK and elsewhere outside US. Directors and other middle to senior managers to my knowledge but the action spans the full range of levels. No org untouched it seems. Package is being portrayed as generous. I hope it includes health care for you Americans :-(

Confirmed needs improvement gets you sacked but as stated elsewhere that’s only one of the attributes they’re using. Not been elaborated what else it is but there seems to be a target on well paid middle management.

Absolutely more cuts to come if we’re going to hit 22.5% margin for fy2020.

Sheesh! There’s a lot of Negative Nancy’s trolling this post today. IF the OP is true, then let’s show some understanding and compassion for those who are about to lose their paycheck. The US job market is tough right now and applying for other jobs is like a full time job sometimes.

If you do get laid off, I would recommend checking out the lists on Becker’s Hospital Review website for hospitals and healthcare IT companies - if you truly enjoy the field and would like to look for employment in the industry. There’s some great local HIT companies in the KC metro like Netsmart and WellSky, as well as large health systems (KU, St. Luke’s, Children’s Mercy, etc). Comment some more suggestions below if you’d like.
