Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the input. I just want to verify/clarify - are these responses about manager to team size from people who are current Broadcom employees, people who were let go, or people at Symantec trying to read the leaves.

The 33 will be down to probably 15 - 20 and that's a conservative estimate. May let all 3 managers go and roll what's left of the team up under BRCM Management.

33 will be managed by 1, take my word for it. One of the managers under you will get a stay only because he/she is at a lower salary the other mid-level manager and manger above him RFI'd. There are 3 to 4 managers a CA before you get to Hock so he is closely involved with all aspects of the company.

I've read that Broadcom is a very flat org. What does that mean? I have 14 direct reports, including two managers below me. My total org size is 33. My assumption is 33 is probably considered more appropriately sized for 2 managers, not 3. Or is it so flat that 33 should be managed by 1 manager?

Yes. Keep up your engineering skills.
A friend from original Broadcom company went back from Dev Mgr to Dev after AVGO acquired Broadcom.
