Thread regarding Symantec Corp. layoffs

Where are they going to start with layoffs first?

Is there any logic to where they might start? What segment of the company could be impacted the most?

@10IQBg4U The CA layoffs didn't start until the official close of the sale, which was the first day of Broadcom's new fiscal year. As far as I know, not a single CA HR lasted past that day, unless they were blocked by WARN in the US or laws outside the US. Even in the US were WARN applied, they were told to go home and not come back(garden leave) even though they still officially worked there until 60-90 later. HR is virtually non-existent at Broadcom, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. Overall all, I still think the change has been positive, if you have a job. It is a much more efficiently run company that focuses on business, not feel good initiatives and diversity fairs. They're not abusive or discriminator, they just expect you to come to work and do you job. They then pay you extremely well to do so.

Marketing, HR, Finance were some of the first to go during the CA Acq. BRCM does not believe in back office support so whatever Sales and Tech folks are left, which will be minimal will be responsible for a whole laundry list of things that they once had support on. BRCM cuts to the bone and don't seem to care how things get done moving forward just as long as they are getting done.

Layoffs will likely start everywhere at the same time or at least have the same end date - November 1st. If they follow a pattern in where to start first, then they will start with overlay roles, sales and technical sales then go to shared services like marketing, finance and IT and will then work with regional VPs on a transition into a global role or negotiating a package. Last but not least - HR will let go Talent Acquisition and then later lay themselves off. It's unlikely that they start based on region or subsection of market. Though countries with workers councils will likely be laid off last.

Sadly, that makes sense. Wouldn’t surprise me if they make people who receive offers stay silent so that those who are second/third choice don’t know that they got an offer because others declined.

It would seem they’ll cherry pick who they want and re-assess who accepts and who does not and as they say, go back to the well for more where required which suggests the only people to hear anything will be the ones selected to stay and once the quote or need has been reached, the rest will be informed that they did not make the cut.
