Subject pretty much says it all. I can't sleep most nights just thinking about the impending layoffs.

I find a good beer or puff of the magical herb helps
Don't lose sleep, don't stress out about the impending layoff.
Take action, whether you think you'll be laid off or not.
- while you are still at Symantec, document your work history! Use your annual reviews to pick the good things you've done, and the job-title you have, with the month & year information.
- before putting your linked-in profile as available for recruitment, set it to private.
- Use the information you've gathered from #1 to update your profile chronologically.
- Now, look at your profile and what you're doing lately. What kind of job do you want? What is your strength? Put that as linked-in summary, which is basically how you would advertise yourself to a job recruiter.
- have a friend review your linked-in profile & summary.
- open your linked-in profile to all.
- sign up for dice.com, indeed.com, glassdoor.com, etc. etc. Beware: you'll be flooded with email and / or text messages.
- if you find a job you are interested in, look at the description, create a resume based on the description + your linked in profile. Cherry-pick the stuffs from your linked-in profile that match the job description.
Good luck....
It's not the end of the world...
Never lose sleep over being laid off. Most people go on to better situations, more suitable jobs and more money. Like everything in life there is a positive side - focus on it.
No reason to be nervous or get stressed out by this. If your name is on the chopped list, there is nothing you can do about it.
If you care for the severance wait this out and look for jobs on the side. if you do not, move on now. This is part of life. Don't loose your valuable sleep time on this.
I’m nervous but as many others have said, there’s plenty of jobs out there and this could be a great thing. I think mid-end Sept we’ll know the lay of the land and hopefully if anyone leaving will be compensated fairly. God knows SYMC won’t want 1000s of aggrieved employees before they close the deal of their lives so I’m optimistic the packages will be fine. Keep your head up!
Leave now and educate yourself on new tech. SYMC portfolio of products is dead and will be replaced by other better things, so if you're pigeonholed into one thing, get out of it and branch out.
I’ve been laid off once before. It wasn’t a pleasant experience as it was a startup that let almost all employees go, but it wasn’t big enough to be covered by WARN.
It’s not much consolation but we are in a much better position as we are at a larger company.
You will likely find something new quite quickly although thousands of Symantec employees on the market at the same time may pose a challenge.
My sleep is also suffering, but part of that is being expected to pretend it’s business as usual and to continue as if there is a future. The odds don’t appear to back that up.
Theres not much any of us can do. Try to get what test you can, use MTO, do whatever it takes so that when you interview you don’t look tired and burnt out. Leetcode isn’t going to help much if you appear to be in a poor mental and physical state.
This is easier said than done, otherwise I’d be taking my own advice.
we are warriors....lift up your spears and let the true conquest begin brothers and sisters...we are one, and do not lose sleep as you have special gifts to offer this world
Same here, looking for for jobs every day incase the right one appears. Even if I get an offer from Broadcom it sounds like there is zero job security, so I'll never be at-ease :(
Good luck to everyone
Same here
Feel trapped
READY TO MOVE ON
I feel like i’m screwed, but it the meantime, I can’t do anything against this process. I have to deal with it, like all of us. Look forward, there is one job for you on the market, don’t stay alone and don’t read thelayoff ;-)
The solution.......... Ambien
Best of luck to all reentering the job market. You'll find there is no shortage of opportunities. Chin up.
I have survived so many layoffs. I don’t think I will make this one. I am trying to prepare as much as possible.
Chances are, you or someone you know has experienced a layoff at some point. No matter how stable and safe your career might seem, getting the so-called pink slip can happen to anyone, especially in today’s economy. Getting laid off is never fun, but there are ways you can prepare yourself both financially and emotionally, just in case you find yourself having that talk with your boss. Layoffs can be incredibly stressful, but they can also lead to successful career reboots, life changes, and entrepreneurial enterprises.
