Thread regarding Nestle layoffs

Next Steps

Since we are in the last 10 weeks of this ride, I believe many of us are dialing down on what our next steps will be. I’ve spoken to different people across a few different depots and many of them plan on enjoying the holidays stress free, then begin applying for jobs around mid December. I, too, have the same plan.

To those in need of a job more quickly, I wish you the best of luck landing something in the company or externally.

Biggest problem with nestle was all the over aged gimps who struggle everday to complete daily tasks without extra help. We have close to 5 sales people who are well over 50 years in age. I can honestly say I don't see them getting another job somewhere else unless they can bring a merchandiser with them to do there job for them.

I’ve been working non-stop since 1982. Earlier than that if you count a paper route :)
I applied for a work permit when I was 15.
This will be the first time I’ll apply for unemployment and I’m 52.
I’ve been saving for this for 3 years after we lost all the smaller accounts. The plan is to use unemployment for 1 or 2 months while applying then hopefully bag a job and put the severance/retention in the bank.
Car is paid off, credit cards paid off , now its just mortgage, utilities and unforeseen emergencies.
Could be waaaay worse than it is now....
If you put this in a (world perspective) 3/4 of the world lives in poverty.

Obviously, the smart move is to try and get a job lined up ASAP after our time here is done and bank all of the severance. But on the other hand I basically haven't been able to do anything around the holidays for the past 10 years working here. Work the day before, get the holiday off and right back to work the day after. So it would be nice to have all those days off for once to spend with family. I think I'll start throwing out applications for moonshot jobs when I get my 60day notice and maybe get lucky to talk myself into one. Then start applying to more realistic jobs come December if nothing else materializes.

It’s easy to find a job where you overqualified and make less than money than we currently do. I’ve been applying for higher paying jobs and have had a couple of interviews but it has been difficult moving past that point. I have a bachelors degree and have spent a lot of time preparing for the interviews. It seems to me getting a new higher paying job will take longer than 60 days. You might not get a call until after a couple weeks you apply then the whole interviewing process could take a month.

I plan on start looking hard 30 days before last day worked and banking all the severance and retention money as gravy. Otherwise I would’ve jumped by now, have used alot if pto saved up since last may news, everybodys plan diff. Want nothing to do with nestle warehouse side 😀
