Thread regarding Fry's Electronics layoffs

Sorry state of Fry's Fountain Valley, CA

I went to the Fountain Valley, CA location yesterday and was truly saddened.

It was always a treat for me to go in there and spend a good hour looking and picking up random cool stuff.

I would say that 40% of the isles have product. Earlier this year, I went and noticed the PC/Laptop area was pretty bare; I'd assumed they were in the middle of a remodel/re-stock. It's very strange though because as early as a year ago, I could have swore that going there on a Saturday, you were in for a madhouse... long line to cash out, 10 cashiers servicing the long line...

shelves were fully stocked. I think at least for this location, the decline was quick, all things considered. Everyone should go to your local Fry's and take a bunch of pictures while we still can. I know there are some stores from my childhood which I wish I could revisit in pictures (old walmart, Sodis, Newberry, etc).

Wow. I went in to Fry's Electronics today to get a new soldering iron tip. The store was a ghost town. The shelves were bare. To try to hide just how bad it really was, every isle was setup as a two level, and the top third of every peg board just had a sign on it for what was supposed to be in that section.

In the soldering isle, there was absolutely no soldering equipment at all. No irons, no tips, no accessories, NOTHING. I checked the tools isle, just in case they moved it there to fill in some other hole. Nope. Very sad. I am reading reports that all of their stores are looking like this. Sounds like their suppliers have cut them off, no 30 day terms anymore, cash up front now.... That is the only way a store that must pay a fixed rent (or has a paid mortgage) does not fill its shelves with stuff to sell. When they cannot buy stuff to sell, and they cannot get credit for stuff to sell from vendors or creditors. This place is cooked I think. I cannot see them making it to the end of the year like it was. K-Mart actually looks better (also sad, but better.) My guess, 3 months at the absolute longest for this place to have the doors open. They have nothing to sell, so there was no one there.
