Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Are older employees targeted once again?

Do we know yet the average age of laid off employees? Are those over fifty targeted once again?

I have seen this before. Don’t remove those close to retirement age, remove the next in line. Then you get twice the bang for the buck & achieve your total layoff goals with less actual layoffs. Layoffs are bad press. The real issue is that millennials aren’t as tolerant & their pensions are portable. They have been leaving at a high rate. The oldies are cut, the youngsters leave. Who’s left, the brown nosers, who spend more time s---ing up than working & the poor few left that carry all the burden. A recipe for further company decline. With electric & autonomous just around the corner. The big 3 with all that legacy cost are in real trouble. Yet the CEO can get a pay rise???

Yep my dept too. Popularity contest. All gone are in the 45+ protected class with GRP pensions. They even promoted people to replace them. All promoted were in the “diversity” class. All gone white males.

Six LL6 hit in my dept. One was crying unconsolably. Two were giving high fives. Three were stoic and uncommunicative

One had packed up his cube in December. He told me he got a bogus review after decades of Top Achiever and new he was a target. The rest were all surprised

I echo others in saying the best and brightest got hit in our area. They probably were highly compensated.

I'm curious why a WARN letter wasn't filed with the State of Michigan or Dearborn. WARN notices are required by the Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act to provide advance notice in cases of qualified plant closings and mass layoffs.

"Ford set a target for a gross number of management jobs to be reduced," Anderson said. "That is harder to achieve and keep a successful company than it will be for General Motors. ... It's going to be harder for Ford to maintain the quality they have with this significant headcount reduction."

Quote from Detroit News.

They let go alot of very qualified, competent, dedicated and hard working folks today. My heart goes out to all!!

The LL5 gave the list of LL6 and GSR people to be terminated to the LL3

The LL4 gave the list of LL5 to be terminated to the LL3

If they tell you otherwise, they are lying so they can tell their remaining people hey I had nothing to do with it.

Can confirm that all the incompetent brown nosers still have a job in our department.

Right before lunch the two best employees got released.

Great message on what behaviors are valued and rewarded at Ford.

But we already knew that.

All involved get together and seek legal advice!! The CEO should not be compensated when there are layoffs. This is the same guy who hired Harbaugh, how’d that work out???

No it is a popularity contest. One person in our Department was let go and there were 3 others that stayed who are all retirement eligible. From a credible LL2 I heard that departments were told we need to make cuts and to put a list together of you want to get rid of. So if you weren't playing the political game then good luck but odds were against you.

How well you perform your job has nothing to do with this lay off. It is all about cutting big salaries. If you are at least 55 and 30 years in you are standing on quick sand. Just let go this morning. I’ve moved all over with this company, took huge financial hits having to sell home and relocate when housing market tanked. I’ve easily clocked 70 hour work weeks, took work on vacations too. Can’t wait to see how they do without me! Good luck!!

At Will, to hire or fire, as long as no Fed/State laws are violated.

Finance.

Though my dept may be different than others based on calendars I've seen. I got an email and an invite to a conference room by my LL4, and it wasn't to chat about the weather. But I've seen other groups that look like they are receiving the info from their direct LL5 manager. So I suppose it's how your team wants to play it.

Sorry to hear you were let go. Was it a shoulder tap, invitation to meeting?

IMO the enhanced - PRP offered last May targeted toward mature employees. Age and tenure was a criteria.
