Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Be prepared to be voted off the island

CVX employee here, who has survived multiple ROMs (our version of the hunger games). I’ll give it to you APC folks straight. That guy who they announced will lead the integration on the CVX side has NO soul. If this were feudal times you could expect to have your villages razed, your cattle confiscated and absolutely no response to your weeping and wailing. If I were to guess, my bet is that there will be mass casualties in the corporate staff - the closer you are to the wellhead the greater the chance for survival.

Oh, and all you contractors, start setting up those farewell lunches - your a$$e$ are the low hanging fruit. Admins, you too - ya gone! Middle managers with only a few direct reoports - no one is coming to save you. Poor performers, I’m not stuttering when I say start packing those moving boxes. And all you delusional enough to think you’re special/valuable cough geologists cough anyone * Look up the word redundancy. Everyone else, put on a pair of depends cause this $hit show is gonna hit you like a hurricane

Central business district? Never heard it called that in 50 years. Some interloper posting from Mumbai?

Dra - mínimum is 3 months, max is 2.

And yes I have been to central business district. Midtown isn’t going through crazy boom with all the high end apartments as is downtown.

Galleria a few miles to the east. We will be more than fine. Houston is a huge city.

The package that APC offers is sweet. I will be doing cart wheels as well. Most of us are in the 1-2 YEARS worth of pay (max is 2 years) . If they wanted me gone tomorrow I’d sign off. Houston is huge, and offers tons of employment opportunities. The central business district is booming. Can’t wait to cash my fat check. This is a God send for a lot of APC employees. Not every day that these cash windfalls come. Enjoy the heck out of it and let’s toast on our last day! Yee Haw MF’s!

For those of you fit and ready for retirement, this acquisition could be your wet dream, your early ticket out. Chevron’s standard severance package pays 2 weeks pay for every elígele year of service (8 weeks minimum and 52 weeks max), plus 6 months of subsidized COBRA medical insurance premiums. Chevron also allows 6 months of uncontested State Unemployment Benefits. Note though, if APC’s standard severance package is better, you will get the better of the two. It happened when Chevron acquired Texaco in 2001. Texaco retirees got a sweeter deal. Many people opted to retire early.

There use to be a plan in place at APC in case of something like this. In some cases it came out to two years salary. It was better than the packages, but the packages were really nice. One of the hardest things about layoffs is health insurance. It takes a lot of severance money to offset the cost of health care for your family. If possible get all your elective health needs taken care of asap.

Thanks for the information!! Definitely not as good as the APC severance packages. When people were laid off in 2016, they were doing cart wheels out the door.

@YyiiE9V-rns standard severance at Chevron is two weeks for every year earn up to a maximum one year. So for example, if you are entitled to 70 weeks of pay out based on your years of service you will only get 52 since that is the maximum payout

Chevron employees, what were the severance packages like for the previous lay offs ? Apc employees got up to a couple of years depending on length of service.

overall, Midland is definitely safe

If you work in Midland, I wouldn’t worry about it. CVX has had trouble filling up the office out there. I would assume you guys would just move across town if you’re an engineer or geologist.

Maybe we'll stop seeing these brand new $65k plus decked out pickups with " Proud oilfield wife/daughter" bumper stickers. You never see "proud chef, accountant, doctor or fill in the blank wife. The only ones deserving of that imo are soldiers.

@YyiiE9V-lay - If you haven't figured it out, yet, it is APC that is being taken over/bought out. Not for the people but for the company's tangible assets. It wasn't a whim, it's been in the works, the numbers well worked out, and a strategy signed off by execs. A list exists of APC employees to lay off asap, they are walking as of yesterday with a "soon to be gone" tag on their foreheads. Be smart and start preparing, get yourself in order, decide if you stay to receive a package or start looking for a new opportunity. This is only going to get worse. Hoping is not a strategy and unless you have worked in the majors (BP, Shell, Exxon, Chevron), you have no idea how will unfold.

It is probably safe to ignore the jibberish spewed by laid off Chevron under-performers. Anadarko staff on average are higher performers than CVX so I expect many retained at the detriment of CVX staff low lifes and trolls.

I hope Chevron denies every single APC employee the severance they think they "deserve."

Yes Shell did the same ruthless integration (aka lay-off) then they acquired BG.
