Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Reduction of management layers??

Haven’t seen ONE reduction in management layer. All LL5+ who were laid off are being backfilled. What gives? Maybe it’s just my department, but I feel like they are lying about what’s going on and majority of cuts will NOT be a reduction in management layers but cuts at LL6/GSR levels. How sad for those of us that are just implementing the leaderships failed direction.

Do not take a job at Ford Motor Company, unless you want to put up with the real Ford families bs. Think about it. Is Bill Ford and Elena Ford worth their salary? They all need to see the shrink.

Leadership incompetence permeates Ford so deeply that it certainly has no future. Super competence is rewarded with a pink slip as competence disrupts the Ford hierarchy.

You want job security, sit around doing nothing until given precise instructions on what and when to do something. And then only do that 9-5.

The only way Ford survives is dismantle the hierarchy.

Reduction? heck no. It is disgusting to watch. Two tech spec LL6 who were recently given two direct reports each, despite not wanting to manage, were smart redesigned mid March, both late 50s. Not one peep from our cowardly LL5 as to where the two LL6 went. Everyone too fearful to ask. One of the LL6 spots has already been refilled with another laterally moved LL6 (buddy of LL5 - white male early 60s), the other has been promised to another member of the boys club as soon as the layoffs are over. Neither of the boys club are capable of doing the jobs so of course another hiring spree will occur post lay-offs. Unless there is some cosmic justice that smart redesigns the replacement LL6 in next wave.

Come to think of it Here is something Jim Hackett and GDIA can collaborate on create a map of all the deceitful and conniving LL* activities starting last year and leading up to the lay-off and smart reDesign out all the participants in the deceitful and conniving actions. That would certainly improve the entire corporate morale and also demonstrate tha the Ford Truths really matter to Bill Ford and Jim Hackett.

Fundamentally flawed reDesign.

The Big Brain did not see the root cause of Ford problems.

Those who created the problem will not solve the problem just because big Jim gives them a leadership book to read.

The same nonsense continues to go on decades on end.

Leadership team A decides cost savings can be achieved by creating a new group to do part of a current groups function. The current group withholds critical information and subtly sabotages the effort. The new group flounders and continues to staff up and up. Ten years later Leadership team B proposes cost savings and efficiencies to merge the new group with the old group. Now the original group size has quadrupled and is doing the same work they original were. Except now there is more LL* needed to manage the larger team. Next decade it happens again.

It is human nature to protect your buddies and managers that pulled you along with them. Common knowledge that you create positions to protect org brackets. Hacker thinks you can have a top down reorganization. What world is he from? I am really concerned that ford is using consultants to navigate this. Why is Ford HR not offering Phased Retirement for 2019, are they done cutting or is the gererosity gone? Mean while who wants a friggin EV?

-tch same going on in my area. Prmotions and shifting reports around so that the good ole boy club have many direct reports and responsibilities on paper. The LL6 and GSR who have always done all the work continue to do all the work, yet have few reports or responsibilities on paper.

I have this unsettling feeling when I listen to the leadership almost like I have been slimed.

The LL5, LL4, LL3 all swearing they have absolutely no idea about what is going on and have had zero input into any of the smart reDesign or layoffs. Just who is this leadership team that Hatchet speaks of then?

At the same time these same LL5+ have the nerve to have LL6 meetings and direct the LL6 to have conversations with their early professional reports and convince them not to jump ship. And to tell them if any are thinking of jumping ship.

So of course they are lying about reducing levels, and of course they had input into the targets, and of course the targets are the older workers.

@Yk9nx64-1voc My department is the same. We are supposed to just walk around and ignore the empty offices and cubes and pretend this is not going on.

April 8 is a date for some groups, May 21 is also a date I have heard for some groups.

I am expecting to see people I know, admire, and respect be asked to leave on both those dates.

My thoughts are with you. We will all survive this.

There are several people in the area where I work that are actively tracking and keeping a spreadsheet listing of the people who are being laid off (not for all areas - just our skill team). If its going on here, someone is tracking it in other areas as well.

Its sad that it has come to this. There is an active underground for rumors to enable this tracking, and I would say the accuracy of the rumors has been > 90%. It doesn't take long for the info to circulate amongst my coworkers when someone is let go. The list is being actively shared since upper management continues to refuse to acknowledge anyone by name. Not one email thanking them. Not one meeting mentioning their contributions thru their career.

We get to hear about it on the rumor wire. We celebrate them and their contributions silently, with alot of head scratching along the way.

Ive worked for Ford for 16+ years. I routinely work long hours and always have. Im not anymore. Why should I? To play random spin the wheel you get to stay and you get to leave games?

BTW, MAY 21 for next level of cuts in our team and many others. Though rumors are saying some teams as early as a week from now.

You read about the accuracy of the rumors I talked about above right? Book it.

You all are correct. There hasn’t been any reduction in the management levels. Ford shifted people from one level to the next and around the company. The number of head counts has not reduced since beginning of the year. It is sad to see that our leadership haven’t got a clue as how bad Ford work force is. GSR are not being cut either, they are just moving people around in order to justify and secure their position in the company. Very sad.

@Yk9nx64 of course they are lying. In my department, the LL4's, LL5's and LL6's are creating promotions and trying to get more direct reports under themselves. This is the equivalent of when a toddler closes his eyes and puts a pillow over his head and thinks that makes him invisible. These managers think if they shuffle the shell in this shell game and add more direct reports that somehow they will be spared. And maybe they will. For this first round of layoffs. But Ford is in a downward spiral and there will be many more rounds of layoffs before the carcass of Ford is eventually sold off or allowed to die.
