Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

I want to leave

I'm tired of never ending layoffs and constant worry over having a job. I want to leave on my own, I really do, but I'd lie if I said I was not scared of the unknown. You know what they say, better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

How did other people who left on their own do? Any regrets?

@YDWfYlN-ihfd, I don't know you or your friends, so did she use leetcode to prepare?

Ha Ha Ha!

Just so you folks feel inspired, a friend in engineering who was laid off recently landed a job at a FANG.

She prepped hard after the layoff and the result was an offer of Triple the comp. of Juniper!

The lesson here is to not give up hope and keep truckin' forward. She made it because she worked hard to pass the technical interviews. Don't arrogantly expect it to fall into your lap with minimal prep.

Also, don't wait for the axe to fall on you. Don't be lazy. If you want to leave, be proactive to look now, as the writing is fully on the wall!

@YDWfYlN-1eho thanks for the encouragement and right not all of us are coders. And this person who keeps posting on various forums about leetcode and how easy it is to prep for FANG probably works for leetcode. It's not that easy trust me.

Not everyone is a coder at Juniper so this LEETCODE thing is not applicable to most Sales/Field oriented folks. So best to focus on all the Indusrty Trends as it relates to Cloud (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and all the ‘traditional networking/routing/SDN/Networking within (IaaS/Application Service Environments in the case of Azure/ Kubernetes/Load Balancers/Security/Coding as it relates to scripting a networking environment (Teraform, Templates) to stand up up networks. What it takes 2-6 months to stand up in a Datacenter can be done in a few hours or a couple of days to get the kinks out on a Public Cloud (Azure, AWS and a distant 3rd Google Cloud followed by Oracle/IBM etc). Look for jobs with companies that supply to the Big Cloud vendors and no not Juniper. If I got a dollar every time a discussion came up about putting a vSRX in the cloud, I would maybe have $3 as compared to PAN (I would by lots of rounds of drinks) and ASAv would by the finger snacks (maybe a couple of dishes) So lots of networking and sales plays for non-Coders with virtual network functions. SD-WAN is also quite popular but a market that should see more consolidation. If you want to be in the Cloud, you will have to speak to traditional access methods (IPSec VPNS, L2VPN, BGP, Security/ACL’s Layer4-7 with Web Apps, Load Balancers, scaling in/out and up down and what metrics can be used to accomplish in/out or up/down NATing, Static Routes. Add a virtualized router or firewall then add High Availability so there is plenty to do in any of these clouds with traditional/existing System Engineering skill sets. Add on Storage and VM’s, Business Disaster Solutions and Databases/IOT/Serverless Compute/Datawearhouses/AI and you become an UBER SE that positions Solutions and not a piece of the puzzle pushing outdated boxes due to poor PLM/Engineering direction or execution or vision. Just sayin it’s not all about LeetCode but a bigger vision that folks may need to hear about who have to undergo a career change through no fault of there own. I had to undergo a career changing Digital Transformation remake by luckily having Networking Knowledge with Sales Experience to speak the lingo of networking with old school folks who think they will be replaced by the Cloud. Far from it.

Don't leave until you have something lined up. Plain and simple.

So you're afraid of joining another company?! Why? They'll be friendlier, as the company culture is way superior, they'll train you better, you'll be working on technically more relevant stuff (good for career longevity), your resume prestige will be on another level (i.e. you'll get hounded on Linkedin with great offers), you won't be under constant threat of being layed off, and your compensation will be 1.5-2x more. Sorry, am I missing something why you should be afraid? LOL. Come on, snap out of it don't be a punk. Have confidence in yourself.

Start prepping, and when you're 100% prepped, start applying. Your next job will only be as good as your prep. You'll need a good 4-6 months Leetcode to pass the FANG interviews.

Don't discount yourself either! The fact that J hired you means you have a good brain/resume. Getting an interview with FANG ain't that hard at all! They hire all the time! You WILL get your interviews! But way more important is that you prepare like a MOFO! You WILL get challenged, but no mental achievements above what you've done in the past. The rest will fall into place.

Report back when you hit the home run!

Good Luck!
