Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Layoffs are the line of less resistance

It’s a shame that employees that are the heart and soul of this company are paying the price for poor decisions of the leadership. I get that is maybe the easiest way for them, they cut costs and at the same time try to do the same with a lower headcount. But workers are not the problem, are they? We used to be a profitable company with a larger headcound than we have today. Was it that difficult for them to face their own poor decisions and try to correct them, other than making the employees pay the price and letting go knowledge, experience and talent?

Don't be fooled with the train station. Ford isn't stupid. We grabbed over $200 million in tax incentives for buying that thing.

Ford didn't buy the train station, the taxpayers of Detroit did.

65 Million for Chariot- no longer around...good investment?

50 Million for GoBike

100 Million for some scooters (Spin)

90 Million for a dilapidated train station

And whose being walked out the door?

You posted a very good statement. I worked for many years for all the big 3 and finally for Japanese OEM. So I can make the comparison...yes the big 3 usually make either poor future product planning decisions or poor execution of designs and hence in desperation take the short term approach by cutting people to improve the balance sheet...short term panic ...Japanese OEM took long term perspective understanding the layoffs of people is wasting of valuable resources that have been trained with reservoir of experience, during the last big recession in 2008-2009, had no layoffs...yes there was belt tightening but no ‘the sky is falling we don’t know what to do so let’s cut headcount mantra’. Regardless what the highest levels of Big 3 management says in the press....autonomous driving, need to electrify powertrains, lack of rainfall, the real reason is they have failed and do not know what else to do in a short term panic....now put your watch on your right hand till GM gets back 25% of the US market...
