The market for workers at automotive workers is horrible as far as I can see. GM is laying off, Ford is laying off, seems that Fiat-Chrysler is just about to…. The fact is that the industry is changing and therefore will be in demand for a very different type of workers than we are used to seeing, possibly younger ones that they can mold according to the way they see the processes in the future. Does it Even make sense for an experienced worker to apply at an automotive company anymore?

I am seeing a lot of announcements about lay off in other companies, including BMW and VW, i honestly believe Automotive industry is less stable than any other, if you can land a job in another sector like health you better off.

Start looking now and Be careful of where you blast your resume to. Tailor your resume specifically to each position you apply to. Use the exact same spelling and phrasing as in the job posting requirements as autobots filter resumes. Only apply to jobs that you qualify, so that you do not end up on a auto-filter list.
For your future well-being look for a company that matches your value system and treats employees well. I know they are hard to find and you may need to move. It was very difficult for me to start looking as I have only worked at Ford, I was afraid. My opportunity requires me to move. I didn’t realize how stressed I was at Ford until the weight lifted when I realized it was over when I accepted job offer. My wife says I am back to my happy silly self.

Also, don't forget Toyota and Hyundai have tech centers in Ann Arbor. Lot of opportunities. Take those Ford trade secrets in your head to other OEMs!
