I'm honestly curious to find out who decides which people are laid off. It's not somebody who knows these employees, what they do, or how good they are at it - that much is obvious.
I'm assuming this is strictly about numbers - so it's some number cruncher doing all the adding and subtracting without taking anything we consider important into consideration.
Which might be good for the spreadsheet - but how is it good for the future of the company?
Simple, if older and getting a little more than someone younger they put a fork in you. Doesn’t matter that every review has been exceeds expectations! Bill can spin it anyway he wants, but no loyalty at SAP whatsoever!
Who is making the decisions? The same incompetent people who make decisions about our products. I was delusional to believe I was joining a technology company. This is not a tech company and does not operate intelligently as such. When I got in I realized a way to shine is to do your job. Simple. Lots of people do the bare minimum (in N. Amer) thinking they won't get fired. I suspect the terrible leaders in my org, with zero leadership experience, will stay because this is how SAP operates. They don't have a clue.
Managers may not have a direct decision making on the axe list but they have a hand in it which none would admit. Someone has to compile a list of recommendation and guess who that is.
No one in direct management or leadership of the employees affected is consulted in these situations. It's a shock to most of everyone as to how the decisions are made.
Mck, BCG and Bains come in...do the diagnosis...Take a look into which division is making/burning money and advice the Senior Management team to cut costs...this is not done from technology or product point of view, but purely from cost angle...once they identify on paper that X amount can saved by letting ppl go, they wash their hands off and leave....not to forget millions they pocket for 1-2 months for such diagnosis....
It is not, as SAP will soon find out.
