Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

Managers are needed whether you like it or not

Undoubtedly there are managers and leaders who should be sent out of the company. But there are also many good managers in this company. Managers are needed whether you like it or not.

There are also many individual contributors who don’t add value anymore in the company. Or the ones who don’t have their heart in the right place for Juniper and don’t run that extra mile anymore. Like it used to be more than a decade ago. Stop kicking against management. Look in the mirror and judge upon yourself first.

Written by a manager who has been made redundant now, who has received numerous heart warming messages from his team members and peers and who sincerely wishes Juniper well!

We all tend to direct our criticism towards the management ( I mean lower and middle management, not C-suite executives), but as @XggYnGx-3apr, the managers are just like us, there are good and bad managers.

Mismanagement is common with incompetent managers who were promoted due to friendships, connections, influence etc. These types of managers are also responsible for lousy business decisions, that create havoc over time.

Juniper marketing is full of this kind of mayhem. Unfortunately it is the norm, so people are used to it, and don't notice it. The production of juniper marketing would be a lot better without the director/senior director layer, which has created a series of serious blunders misleading the direction juniper should have taken. Unfortunately the VPs and the CMO were/are not smart enough to know that and let it get away.

Obviously, managers are needed, no one said they are unnecessary. However, bad managers cause lots of cultural issues in a company. There will be ICs who are useless, a good manager is one who either makes such an IC useful or manages him/her out. What happens in Juniper is that managers employ favoritism, which causes a$$ licking culture. Good ICs get demotivated and either leave or their heart is not in their job anymore. Juniper managers are responsible for turning useful ICs into useless ones. This has very bad long term effects on the company. This is especially true in WFD, I cannot comment on SVL/BLR.
