Thread regarding SAP layoffs

I heard 600 laid off in Bay Area... entire teams eliminated

I work in the Palo Alto office and entire teams are gone, and people are spending their days trying to figure out who's still left. No communication. And I've heard the layoffs are being done rather harshly - en masse on a con call.

There is a very strong sense of Product Management and Development were targeted as all these teams are gone:

CX/C4C PM and Dev, and apparently "entire senior leadership".

S/4HANA Product Management

SAP Jam

I also heard the entire San Ramon office was hit hard as was SuccsessFactors. as well as they have implemented a "location based development plan" which means anyone that is remote and without a home base office is laid off. Others were offered relocation to move to an office if they were product management.

All told, 600 is the rumor for bay area alone (out of the 4400). The State of California WARN website has't been updated yet (it publishes on the 10th of the month), so we should be able to see per-location state reporting very soon.

SAP is no longer the same SAP it used to be who used to cared for it’s employees. Unfortunately not anymore. SAP board only cares about increasing share price but ignoring their engineering culture and acquiring companies. It’s become all about Sales. Then giving power to leadership of the acquired companies who in turn trash SAP and treats SAP employees like sh-- and lays off SAP employees.

Seen this happening over and over again. But this time Qualtrics takes the cake! 4400 SAP employees are loosing their jobs in 2019 to pay for Qualtrics - a survey tool company. SAP is not buying Quaktics for its products but for its customer base. SAP exes do not trust their own engineers teams.

CA WARN report was published (https://www.edd.ca.gov/Jobs_and_Training/warn/WARN_Report_for_7-1-2018_to%20_03-10-2019.pdf), but no mention of the SAP layoffs. Are they in violation?

Experience DOESN’T Matter obviously. 14 years and let go just like that

I heard there is a new Labs opening up in Bangalore and new container buildings are coming up in Walldorf. Does that mean layoff in Bay Area and recruit later this year in Bangalore. I personally think it more than 600 and heard someone saying over 1000 but not sure. Also it was sad to see my buddy in Intelligent Enterprise laid off too.

Workers in the bay area are more expensive. Harsh reality in a global economy where you can find cheaper, emerging workers else where.

Top performers are at expert level (T4,T5) which is more expensive, unfortunately.

Super sad, we were sold the idea that this was going to be cutting under achievers, and in reality top people are getting cut. It's just marketing so they can implement these macro moves that don't help SAP.

Then why are you here?

Funny listening to comments about your competitors taking SAP's cast offs.

Not exactly....

Your competitors are chopping heads too, but of course the ostriches here don't want to know that because that's called economic reality, which is unwelcome here.

So sad. The HANA and SAP Cloud Platform PM teams in the Bay Area are also gone. As far as I concern, our competitors like Oracle, Salesforce, MS, Google, AWS are happy to take these people. SAP's loss for saving money over talents. That will really make Bill's BEAT Salesforce dream come true.

FYI no-compete clause is banned in California so you are free to work for a competitor and still get your severance package.

What does our Silicon Valley MD have to say about this?

What does home base office in this context mean? If you're remote, near an office, but don't have an actual workspace, are you part of it?

Very good info. It is all about location this time from the people that got cut. This is cruel and sad and goes against the claim as one of the best company to work at. Experiences and abilities not considered and if this is not valued in a company then what else is left?
