Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

QA Layoffs in 2019

We were told today that 400 QA jobs will be affected next year (2019) and another 400 the year after that due to a “QA Transformation Plan”. They plan to remove QA inspections, and put it all on the mechanics. Not real sure how the FAA bought into this, or if they even know. It just doesn’t seem like a good idea. Not when things like Lion Air happen.

With automation coming on-board and the reliability of machines doing the work the need for QA involvement reduces. Now with human hands doing the work there is a huge variation on the quality and consistency of the work being performed

Of course Boeing will do anything to eliminate costs in airplane production! Boeing is more and more focused everyday on eliminating anything that can make profits increase. Eliminate job tasks employees do in their everyday jobs, eliminate quality assurance employees, eliminate jobs that are not directly involved with making the plane in the plant, because the selling of planes is the most important thing Boeing wants to do right now. The mechanics are the most important people in the Boeing company, because they build planes for sale. Safety of American people is not really a Boeing priority at all; let's face it money talks. People's lives are not as important as profits; it has been this way in many different parts of any industry; And companies do not what consumers to realize this! It has been, and becoming even more important that consumers should beware, they will suffer more and more when they buy poor products and services. Greed is more powerful and important that your life; and companies will continue to let consumers die, and be injured, just to make a profit!

They plan on removing SOME Q/A inspections- not all. It will either work out, or it won't. I am not a fan of eliminating Q/A on a machine that carries people through space, but Boeing does seem hell-bent on maximizing profits. I have seen the "pressure" (suggestion) to: not write pick-ups and not document rework. However, in my department, it all 80% rework, and the inspectors are fastidious. Technology is advancing some machinist-driven self-inspections, but hopefully, the public will not suffer for our company's quest to make more and more and more money.
